Abstract
Previous research on school-based prevention indicates that interventions are most beneficial when they concurrently enhance students' personal and social assets, as well as increase the quality of the environments in which the students are educated. However little research has been conducted concerning the effects of universal prevention programs at the college level, and even less with environmental models. In the current study a college-based prevention program was developed, implemented and evaluated both before (pre-test) and after (post-test) program implementation. The two major goals of this study were to examine the factors associated with wellbeing and awareness of resources, in addition to evaluating the current prevention program. It was hypothesized that increased awareness of student resources and events would be positively associated with student well being. It was also hypothesized that the presence of the prevention program would impact students' awareness of resources. At both time points, participants completed the Hope Scale, the Revised UCLA Loneliness Scale, the revised (CRQ) College Resilience Questionnaire and questions regarding resource awareness/use, thoughts of dropping out, and other psychosocial variables. Awareness of resources was found to positively correlate with and predict wellbeing. No significant difference was found between the pre-test and post-test group across wellbeing measures and resource variables.
