Abstract
This thesis is divided into three parts. The first part will present an introductory account of five ethical approaches; namely, Consequentialism, Deontology, Virtue Ethics, Confucianism, and Philosophical Daoism. In the second part, I present my own ethical approach, Negotiated Ethics. Negotiated Ethics is a type of Virtue Ethics, such that it depicts the types of virtues sufficient for a subject to morally engage in moral disputes. I argue in favor of this form of ethical reasoning because of the pluralistic context in which the world is in. In the third part of the thesis, the six ethical approaches are embodied through the main characters of an original comic story. Essentially, I will provide a narrative foundation that grounds a subsequent comic excerpt that portrays a team of superheroes navigating and negotiating through a plurality of beliefs and motivations. It is the belief of the author that children ought to benefit from learning about philosophy & ethics; thus, this thesis will try to make philosophical notions more accessible to children via visual narrative.
