Abstract
This thesis focuses on the unspoken divide between performers and technicians in commercial theatre, caused mostly by directors, and how production managers can act as a bridge between them through the lens of a student production manager. Brought up throughout the thesis are also examples of how the work of technicians is just as artistic as the actors onstage. These points are shown in three parts, chapter one: which shows evidence of this divide via university marketing and technical theatre journals, chapter two: A day by day journal showing the in’s and out’s of production managing Carrie: The Musical and how the collaboration makes a great show, and chapter three: a reflection looking at the qualities that make a successful production manager, and how my own journey fell within those parameters.
