Abstract

This thesis formulates a “theory of worldviews,” which I claim both William James and Ludwig Wittgenstein implicitly hold. To prove this, I look at the intellectual relationship between James and Wittgenstein and argue that their conceptual similarities are the result of a shared, underlying commitment to an anti-foundationalist theory of worldviews. In this thesis I also explore what the theory of worldviews entails, especially its relationship with religion, evidence, and doubt.
