Abstract
This thesis is an exploration of activist, academic, and writer tatiana de la tierra. tatiana was the co-founder, contributor, and editor of the Miami-based writing collectives esto no tiene nombre and conmoción: revista y red revolucionaria de lesbianas latinas (1991-1996), which garnered a transnational audience as the first creative writing and activist magazines written for and by Latina lesbians. tatiana went on to author Para las duras: Una fenomenología lesbiana (Calaca Press 2002), a bilingual poetry collection and manifesto. As such, esto , conmoción , and Para las duras offer rich sites for the application of lesbian-feminist theory and discussion of praxis regarding social transformation, Latina lesbian cultural production, and creative resistance practices. This thesis is based on my own deep readings of the texts, archival work, literary analysis, as well as queer, lesbian-feminist scholarship. Ultimately, I identify the three texts as sites of social change, political mobilization, and third space activism which disrupt white, heteronormative configurations of society and knowledge. Building from the work of Adela C. Lincona, Gloria Anzaldúa, Juana María Rodríguez and de la tierra herself, I construct a historical narrative of the development, labor, and material realization of esto no tiene nombre , conmoción , and Para las duras . I envision my thesis as not only a specific and deep investigation on tatiana de la tierra herself, but as an elaboration on the enduring significance of and correlation between lesbian-feminist publishing and activism.
