Abstract
The stable production of foods is the cornerstone of any functioning society. However, with the advent industrialized agriculture and its application to livestock production, tremendous amounts of resources are used to sustain the demand for meat. Normally, the animals being raised for food are kept in conditions that are neglectful towards their welfare and abuse typically goes undocumented. This thesis uses a qualitative analysis to explore the phenomena of what has been dubbed by the government as “eco-terrorism” and its relation to the systemic legal push on the state and federal level, in the United States, to criminalize journalistic investigations and activism related to the animal agriculture industry.
