Abstract
This thesis is a video project that explores Caribbean culture through poetry and cinema with special attention placed to the relationship between the Caribbean and its diaspora. The video uses an interdisciplinary methodology that takes elements from documentary cinema, autoethnography and literary investigation to discuss these themes with 3 poets from Cuba and Puerto Rico. The written portion of the thesis is an introduction and contextualization of the video project that examines many of the concepts and theories that had a decisive influence on the video. The video seeksto shed light on how Caribbean culture as we know it exists thanks to the mixing of different cultures that were in themselves distinct diasporic populations (Eupeopeans in the Americas, indigenous groups from South America, diaspora from Africa and Asia) and how this dissemination continues in new directions in the present. The project delves into this subject through poetry, cinema and interview with the poets to examine these themes in a creative manner.
