Abstract
This thesis examines the role of corruption and inequality on development in Nigerian and South Africa. I evaluate several prevailing approaches to these issues and incorporate more critical, contemporary, and localized research. Most past work on corruption and inequality in Sub-Saharan Africa is incomplete because it often fails to incorporate many of the more complicated social and cultural components within this relationship. While this thesis does not come to a firm conclusion, it does highlight the importance of challenging dominant narratives that can be biased and conceptually limited.
