Abstract
English Abstract: This thesis will attempt to explore the dual representation of America as a maternal and sacred feminine figure. By the nature of their reciprocal relationship, the American people acquire a similar dual representation of the continents children and devotees. In the work, they are projected as a chorus of voices that use poetry as the vehicle through which they worship the material and spiritual world of their land. The idea of the material (or the concrete) and the idea of the spiritual (or the mystic) will reach an equivalent value through the course of our reading. In addition, the poems usually feature a single speaker, not unlike that of many works of fiction, which modulates into various perspectives. In our case, the speaker modulates into three different perspectives, which we will refer to as the epic speaker, the poetic voice and the figures of the "other". These three manifestations exchange the position of announcer throughout the work in order to form a single euphonic body re resenting the American people. Using poetry as a weapon that fuels their song, the people take on the ethical-ideological responsibility to fight against their oppressors and vindicate the past, the present and the future of their mother/goddess land.
