Abstract
Holland's theory of personality types and environments theorizes that if the personality of an individual matches that of their environment, then success will be greater than when the two do not match; this is known as person environment congruence. This study attempts to devise a new methodology for performing research into person-environment congruence by merging aspects of Holland's and Salter's theories by examining whether a single personality dimension could be used to determine congruence. Fifty four students from a college classified as being highly iNtuitive and thirty four from a traditional college were administered the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, The Sense of Community Index, and an Academic Report Sheet. Results indicate that a single measure of personality may not be sufficient to establish congruence. Other interpretations of the results as well as directions for future research are discussed.
