Abstract
The papers in this senior portfolio are bound together by the common theme of education as a tool for social justice. A foundational explanation comes from John Stuart Mill and then is loosely applied to two case studies: Post-communist Poland and the welfare system in the United States. The papers posit that education is the foundation for repairing many social ills and can lead to improved lives for the majority. An overarching paper will tie the three papers together as a conclusion. The paper will focus on how social justice was achieved or is being attempted, through education, in these two very different political systems.
