Abstract

This thesis explores the role of Production Management in theater, synthesizing the literature on this topic with insight and reflection by way of a first person case study account. The case study is the New College of Florida's presentation of Dance on Campus, an event offered over consecutive dates at the Black Box Theater that brought together professional and student choreographers, lighting and costume designers, and student dancers. While Production Management has often been understood as a primarily administrative and logistical role, this thesis refines that understanding to emphasize facilitation, adaptive problem-solving, and the underlying need to sustain the systems that make creativity possible. This thesis demonstrates that production management is itself a creative position, blending logistical, interpersonal, and artistic considerations.
