Abstract

Education reform is one of many nonpartisan policies that many consider important. However, how the reform looks differs. The current education system is made up of unequal and discriminatory policies that have been pieced together over the years. To combat the sometimes blatant inequities within the system, there has to be an overhaul of not just the education system. The policy recommendations offered throughout the paper includes everything from education reform to criminal justice reform and builds its case off of the fact that no reform should be created in a vacuum especially, especially education policies. Education reform does not begin nor end with the school. Instead all aspects of society have the potential to impact the effectiveness of education reform. Without changing the conditions that exist outside of the school, student achievement and student success does not increase. The policy recommendations are followed by detailed explanations as to why those recommendations are included. The recommendations are concluded with additional funding sources for the policy recommendations as well as what level of government the policies should be implemented.
