Abstract
Intended to be used mainly as a guide for educators, “Jane Austen’s Emma: A Comprehensive Guide to Teaching and Community Building” addresses the major aspects of Emma in order to provide readers with a stronger historical background and literary understanding of the text. The portfolio is arranged into three sections which are sandwiched between introductory and concluding sections. This formatting is intended to encourage readers to read only what they believe will be helpful for their own research. Inside, readers will find lesson plans, edited and unedited recorded club meetings, visual materials, interviews with educators, short academic essays, and notes on relevant scholarly articles and books. Through the gathering of these materials, a solid foundation for teaching Austen’s Emma can be achieved for even the least acquainted reader. From first-person experience creating and leading The Emma Club and second-person perspectives from industry professionals, it was concluded that the best ways to teach Emma center around community and require a well-paced approach that relates the text to the readers’ own society.
