Abstract
This thesis examines Florida’s demographic growth during the twentieth century, arguing that two key phenomena are the driving factors behind this growth. It opens by defining Florida’s growth, then ties the two phenomena to this growth, those being capital investment, mainly through the real-estate and tourism industries; and federal investment, mainly through flood control and federal employment. Florida’s growth is examined primarily through the decade-by-decade censuses throughout the twentieth century, while the corresponding historical phenomena are examined primarily through secondary sources.
