Abstract

XVIII is a portfolio of four creative pieces: They Keep You Safe, The Missing Image, Monstrous, and Canary Sky. The pieces are all in different forms, though they can all be interacted with by using a computer. The pieces are presented in a website. I use the Moon tarot card as a framework both to design the website and to thematically drive the pieces. I designed the XVIII website as a stark and minimalist interpretation of the Moon tarot card, emphasizing its symbols. Each creative piece aligns with a symbol present in the Moon tarot card. Each creative piece also aligns with the overall meaning of the Moon tarot card. XVIII is an exercise in exploration. Through reader interaction and engagement, XVIII invites the reader into the concealed inner world of the author-narrator. XVIII creates this space by evoking symbols from the Moon tarot card, as well as by melding its technical implementation with creative considerations.
