Abstract
In this Senior Project I share the story of how I came to help build The Equinox Co-op (TEC). TEC began as an attempt to convert chicken houses into greenhouses, and eventually matured into the creation of a community farmers market. My intention is to inspire those interested in learning about the process of building a community. Learning from the mistakes and successes of others can avoid pitfalls, that’s exactly what this work wishes to accomplish. This senior project is divided in two parts, the first part contains 7 chapters written in chronological order as a detailed recollection of the development of The Equinox Co-op. The second part is a short biography of my experiences growing up, what has influenced my life, my way of thinking and college decisions. At the end, I share an analytical framework with the most important elements that I considered are needed when building a project from the ground up. I see both parts relevant because one is the action process and the other one is a reflection and analysis of the action. As a reader, you are welcome to jump around to what interests you more, but reading both parts will provide a better understanding and perspective on the approach that I’ve taken.
