Abstract
Astronomy is said to be the oldest science, stemming from a natural human desire to explore and understand the world around us. Modern astronomy has taken what the astronomers of the past have learned in order to make new discoveries, expanding our understanding of the universe and what it holds. This thesis explores the how modern astronomy evolved over the past few decades, how major discoveries were made, and what future missions hope to achieve. Starting with the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope and its subsequent discoveries, this thesis will discuss as trometry, modern telescopes and what they will be able to capture, recent discoveries in interferometry, and ending with the emerging field of multi-messenger astronomy.
