Abstract
ANTI-GONE, a solo performance script loosely adapted from Sophocles’ Antigone, explores themes of identity, agency, and performer’s embodiment of character through a conceptual means of “deep empathy”; the capability for an audience to perceive and understand identity through solo performance. This thesis mainly consists of five parts: Introduction, the Performance and Embodiment chapter discussing Anna Deavere Smith’s Fires in the Mirror, a creative script, a process chapter, and conclusion detailing the prospective performance of said script, cancelled due to unfortunate circumstance.
