Abstract
This thesis offers a qualitative analysis of dance classes intended for individuals living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). Through field research and semi-structured interviews with participants, carers, and instructors, I aimed to address the question, how can dance class help people negotiate changes in functioning caused by Parkinson’s Disease? I synthesize literature which suggests that dance may be a particularly beneficial activity for people living with PD, and argue that the dance for Parkinson’s model most significantly benefits the lives of participants through the contribution of an accessible dance culture.
