Abstract
The many branches of contemporary feminism often clash with one another, and for good reason. Oftentimes women who self-identify as feminists can hold wholly opposite beliefs of what is best for women’s liberation, and even disagree if we are in need of liberation in the first place. This thesis is an attempt to demonstrate the particularities of patriarchal ideologies, both old and new, conservative and progressive, in order to expose many common misconceptions around the issue of women’s liberation in our mainstream western culture. The postmodern neoliberalization of our society has had an intentionally negative impact on radical and liberation-focused politics. It is my hope to show the reader that radical feminist and leftist organizing is still needed today.
