Abstract

Cognitive impairment is one of the most common symptoms of Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS), and frequently one of the more disabling ones as well. The symptoms of cognitive dysfunction found in POTS patients tends to be remarkably similar to those found in Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Little to no research has investigated the role of attentional difficulties in POTS patients, let alone rates of ADHD diagnosis. This study investigates ADHD diagnosis prevalence in adult POTS patients, as well as prevalence of Inattentive, Hyperactive, and Sensory Processing symptoms. A survey was conducted of 146 POTS patients via SurveyMonkey. The results revealed a significantly higher rate of ADHD diagnosis in POTS patients than the general population.
