Abstract

For the uninitiated, Chinese often appears to be extremely difficult. The writing system is complex with few hints as to what any character looks and sounds like. This project aims to review the relevant literature and design a learning tool that takes advantage of the structure of Chinese characters in order to provide an easier and more enjoyable learning environment for second language (L2) learners of Chinese. This is achieved by introducing Chinese characters in a computer generated learning order that is theorized to be substantially more effective for L2 learners of Chinese.
