Abstract
Immunizations have had an impact on public health. They have decreased the morbidity and mortality of various diseases. Immunizations act on innate immunity to activate the adaptive immune system and create immune memory. Although immunizations have clearly decreased the incidence of disease, some people who question the safety and efficacy of vaccines. I discuss the various aspects of the immune system, explored the different types of immunizations that are available, and analyzed the anti-vaccine debate. After weighing benefits and harms, it can be concluded that vaccines are safe for most people. There are a few exceptions where some patients have been shown to be harmed by vaccinations, but these are rare.
