Abstract
The ocean makes up more than seventy percent of the Earth’s surface and has effects on every habitat on the planet. The ocean is also greatly affected by terrestrial life. Because of this codependence, the protection of marine ecosystems is very important. This is a marine science and conservation summer camp curriculum designed to improve science literacy in elementary school children. It was created with a cacophony of educational theories in mind, but especially those of the Progressive Movement and of Montessori to help keep the children engage with the material as well as provide more effective learning strategies. The Florida State Science Standards were also considered to maintain relevancy.
