Abstract
In this study I explore how various international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) frame the issue of, and solutions for, the incarceration of Palestinian youth. I employ a method of content analysis in combination with social movement (SM) theory and frame analysis to critically analyze these organizations’ approaches to writing reports on the systematic and institutionalized ill-treatment and torture of Palestinian youth in the Israeli military detention system. In addition to finding how social movement NGOs frame the issue, my research fills a valuable research gap through connecting the topic with U.S. based mass incarceration literature. I discuss the necessity of reforming how SM NGOs reports frame the issue of incarcerated Palestinian youth through offering specific improvements and I argue how transnational advocacy networks and youth activism have potential to catalyze socio-political change for the precarious situation of Palestinian youth.
