Abstract

In this thesis I will discuss the evolution of modern fanfiction, specifically fanfiction since the dawn of the internet, and how this unique genre of fiction has impacted the way fans consume media, as well as the ever-changing relationship between content creators and fans who produce fanfiction. I will also discuss the different theories and modes of study in regards to fanfiction since the early 2000s. The final section offers three original works of fanfiction that exemplify different popular tropes within the fanfiction community. These works are followed by explanations in which I detail how each story is representative of the subgenres used most widely across fan communities when publishing fanfiction.
