Abstract
There is evidence of a particular practice of medical syncretism in the contemporary medical practices of those in the central Javanese province/city of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Individuals were often found to have combined ideas of traditional Javanese practice and ideas of cosmology as a dualistic means of determining healthcare choices in relation to the Indonesian national healthcare system established in 2014. This provides insights into how these choices, that at may seem counter to contemporary trends at first glance, are active, conscious understandings of how best to live a healthy lifestyle as informed by a large local, and national history.
