Abstract
Dreams are remarkable subconscious vehicles for processing and exploring emotions, amplifying many of their complexities and unpleasantries. I utilize dreams as a template for my own artistic work, imbuing my artworks with specific moods and emotions in a manner which parallels the theoretical dream studies of Sigmund Freud, Rosalind D. Cartwright, and Carl Jung. My work examines the delicate, informative relationship between emotions, dreams, and the psyche itself through a series of disjointed mininarratives populated by monsters. Additionally, I discuss the concept of metamorphosis in conjunction with psychological development and examine artists of the folk art and pop surrealist movements who have committed to their own personal lore.
