Abstract
This thesis explores the associations between healthcare providers and views toward future patient interactions. Much of the previous research has emphasized the effects of emotional burnout on the individual, but recent research is focusing on the possible effects of burnout on others beyond the affected individual. If participants scored high in burnout, then they were expected to possess less favorable views towards future patient interactions. In this study, participants were asked to take a survey consisting of several measures, which focused on burnout, grief, professional quality of life, compassion fatigue, and views towards future patient interactions. The results supported previous findings about the relationship between burnout and other measures of wellbeing, and new hypotheses were partially supported.
