Abstract
Despite being Severo Sarduy’s first published novel, Gestos (1963) has received little critical attention. It is also one of only two of Sarduy’s novels that remain without a published translation in English. The primary goal of this project is to provide a translation of Gestos. In an introductory chapter, the project also analyzes major themes in Gestos, and looks at the stylistic and cultural influences that are noticeable in the novel by providing biographical information about Sarduy’s early life in Cuba, and his exile in France.
