Abstract
Wildlife conservation has gained popular support in recent decades, but is this support changing our behavior? Modern wildlife conservation efforts employ the strategies of habitat preservation, captive breeding and release programs, and public education in order to attack this difficult problem. Human behaviors, especially irresponsible consumerism, have led to the destruction of vital habitats through deforestation, pollution, and anthropogenic climate change. Zoos, aquaria, and groups such as the World Wildlife Fund contribute to public education about eco-friendly behaviors, and public policy must encourage farmers and manufacturers to utilize safer production tools. Conservationists have seen success with some threatened species but much work remains to be done.
