Abstract
The physical manifestation of persona can be seen as morphologies of man, flora, and fauna from Homer’s human animal hybrid characters acted out during ancient cult rituals to contemporary fantasy, comic and game art characters acted out by Cosplayers. This thesis consists of a series of oil paintings, shaped by Homer’s coming-of-age motif and my perception of sisterhood, as I am one of seven sisters. Sisterhood, understood though the Pleiade myth, is both autonomous and mutual. Thesomophoria, Kathos and Anodos, a seven panel cycle, embodies the complexities of identity played out within an autonomous mythscape. This thesis offers an alternative to identity construction through representations of interpersonal relationships and shifting personas.
