Abstract
This thesis is based on an ethnographic research project concerning the performance of drag in South Florida, with focus on the Ft. Lauderdale drag performance organization “Drag It Out!” The nonprofit fosters local community understanding of drag and differences of gender expression and sexual orientation through classes, community outreach and charity shows. I use performance theory and anthropological theory to contextualize and understand observations of performances, technical drag training, and play in a multicultural setting.
