Abstract
This senior thesis project explores the strategies that female student-parents utilize in successfully combining school and parenting. The principal research questions employed are as follows: 1) what are the main difficulties that female student-parents must face and 2) how do the female student-parents deal with these difficulties? Within my investigation of these questions I utilized four variables. The variables considered within my fieldwork were family resources, government resources, peer resources, and institutional resources. In exploring these questions, I used visual sociological methods through the established Grounded Theory (1967) approach. Three college participants were interviewed, observed, and participated in a photo-elicitation process. Loss of sleep, stress, and feelings of guilt were identified as the student- parents main difficulties. Strategies identified in the thesis were family/peer resources, creativity in multitasking, redefinition of ideologies, and organization.
