Abstract
Human trafficking is not a new phenomenon, but it continues to plague us. Institutions of slavery have existed for thousands of years and, as developed as we like to believe we are, we have yet to fix the mayhem that has destroyed life for so long. When I commenced a study on human trafficking, Thailand emerged as the hub for trafficked victims. I questioned why networking in Thailand have long battled this state of affairs and still been unable to resolve it. The purpose of this work is to understand the factors in Thailand that contribute to the success of the trafficking industry and the actors who are making strides in the battle against trafficking. After analyzing the conditions in Thailand, my study offers suggestions for the future. Chapter one commences with a thorough discussion of trafficking in Thailand in order to understand the internal crusade that Thailand has to fight. Chapter two is a review of political science and social movement theories that help explain the dynamics of various organizations in Thailand. Chapter three is an attempt at discerning how the various networks and organizations in Thailand operate through the theory discussed in Chapter two. Chapter four presents an overview of the two main topics that should outline future discussion of possible strategies, and then the chapter concludes with suggestions for future objectives. The original purpose of this research was to provide data for a policy prescriptive study. As I furthered my research, I found that there were many factions and current situations that I had to understand before applying policy. The objective of this work is to begin to understand the situation in Thailand in order that we may figure out how to improve the lot of the many that suffer at the hands of traffickers.
