Abstract

This thesis explores and explains my motivations and interests that have led me to the creation of my art installation, Domesticated. The installation concerns the ever increasing military presence that the United States pursues throughout the world, coupled with the symbols of our idealized past as a nation. I attempt to broach these subjects using humor, hyperbole, and juxtaposition. The combination of recognizable objects made from unconventional materials signals the deeper meanings that point to more than one interpretation.
