Abstract
I translated short stories or texts of equivalent length from Japanese, Spanish, and German into English. I have provided commentary on the translation process. From Japanese I translated the chapter 'Sasaki Taeko' from the book Suki suki daisuki chou-ai shiteru by Maijour Outarou. It is a surreal tale about the relation between dreams and reality, with themes of love and good versus evil, but expressed in unconventional ways. From Spanish I translated selections of Manual de zoologia fantstica by Jorge Luis Borges, which is something resembling an encyclopedia of mythical and otherwise fictional animals. An earlier, complete translation I did of the entire work is provided as an appendix for those interested. From German I translated a short story, 'Wrmchen,' which is told from the point of view of a child who lives at the time when the Berlin wall falls. Appendix A is the complete translation of the Borges work, and Appendix B is a demonstration of my comprehension of Japanese by means of analysis and commentary on a selection of a professionally translated work, Rurouni Kenshin by Watsuki Nobuhiro.
