Abstract

This thesis is an exploratory narrative regarding our talk of material objects, our perception of material objects, and our bases for supposing material objects to exist. I develop and flesh out my own views in response to (1) certain parables I came up with myself and (2) a handful of relevant texts by professional philosophers. The view I develop distinguishes between real existence and conventional existence. Ordiary physical objects, I maintian, exhibit merely conventional existence while real existence belongs only to the basic physical particles that make them up.
