Abstract
This thesis has two basic components. The bulk of it is a screenplay, A Knight at New College. This screenplay is essentially a complete shooting script, should some other intrepid Novo Collegian decide to attempt to film it. It is, in this regard, filled with New College themes, thoughts, characters, history, and legend. However, it is also an allegorical fiction designed to make Novo Collegians think about the way in which we act towards one another. It has also been designed using medieval narrative techniques, designed in this way as an experiment in synthesizing a medieval genre and modern cinema. The second component of this thesis functions as an introduction to the screenplay, by exploring the conditions that produced medieval romance as a genre, explaining the narrative techniques of medieval romance, and analyzing their function and effect.
