Abstract
The following pages are the result of a revelation. Initially, I didn't know how to say what I wanted to say. For many months I stared dispassionately at a computer screen or a blank sheet of paper. The keyboard remained untouched; the pencil never needed sharpening. Writing, or rather, not writing my thesis, was a boring process. I have longed to be one of those people randomly blessed by an epiphany. I wish my taking note of the crack in the sidewalk or a cup of coffee possessed me with the knowledge of how to transform my thoughts into eloquent, convincing words to be bound in a thesis. But a person can only rely on flawed cement and mugs of caffeine for so long before having to resort to a new strategy. As my birth into this world, in effect, was a birth into the world of literature, music, and responsibility, I resorted to the B Vitamins: Books, Bob Dylan, and Babysitting. This dynamic trio has been my sustenance for twenty-two years. It has inspired the creation of my book, I've Got Big Dreams, and an assortment of songs ranging from Mixing Colors to a prince's perception of his beloved, Cinderella. My thesis is simple. It's a project based on an experience and it's a love story, if love can be defined as sharing our dreams. My revelation, my grand epiphany, my illuminating discovery is shared by a little gift on page 23 of my children's book: Dreams are a welcome mat--Wipe your feet and knock on the door...
