Abstract
The prediction of physical characteristics from a DNA sample is one of the major topics of interest in the field of forensic science. The creation of an effective tool for classifying DNA samples according to eye color is a specific example of a problem of interest. Artificial Intelligence offers approach to dealing with the eye color forecasting problem. In particular, Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) offer the robustness and durability that is desired when dealing with partial or noisy data, an unfavorable characteristic of genetic analysis, and a central feature of the forecasting problem. The main aim of this work is to investigate the benefits and drawbacks in the use of ANN as a DNA analysis tool in predicting eye color. For that purpose an ANN will be constructed and trained implementing a Backpropagation Algorithm. Pre-sequenced DNA samples will be used during the training process that will allow for an extraction of the information necessary for predicting eye color.
