Abstract

My intention in this thesis is to show how the progression in my feelings, my thinking, and my skills impacted my work in the visual arts over the course of time I spent at New College. The primary thrust of the thesis is an exploration of how, when combined with color, the human form can be used to express the emotional states that arise as man struggles to relate to himself, to others, and to the divine. This thesis draws off my broad interest in the Humanities, and was accompanied by a show of thirty-three works on paper using pastels, conte crayon, and ink.
