Abstract

This thesis explores the social and economic motivations for Hispanic immigration to the state of Florida, both historically and presently. It then describes the social and economic implications of this immigration on various communities within the state, as well as the state as a whole. Information for this thesis was gathered from a variety of sources, including U.S. Census reports, newspaper articles, government web sites, personal interviews, and books dealing with immigration and Florida. This study identified economic costs and benefits of immigration, and found varying social effects depending on different models of immigrant acculturation.
