Abstract
This thesis is the result of several experiments with theatre as a means of positive social and environmental activism. Three shows are examined in detail: The Butterfly Effect, created from a tutorial at New College; Operation Eden, a farce created in conjunction with the San Francisco Mime Troupe; and Still Time, a one-womyn show that was created as part of this thesis. Different theatrical variables are considered in light of these shows, including the use of optimism, global themes, audience interaction and alienation, and styles of production.
